Things I Like
Sharing some of my favorite inspo of the moment
Lately, I’ve been noticing that we’re all a bit fed up with one-ness in our lives. Whether it’s travel destinations, clothes, or home decor, I can sense that people are over it - looking, acting, and living as carbon copies of one another isn’t cutting it anymore.
While there’s certainly nothing wrong with liking what’s trending, I am always a fan of leaning into a highly personalized lifestyle. Go where others haven’t! Wear a shirt that no one else would! Stop buying Modern Farmhouse decor!
That said, if we’re all perusing the same basic places for inspiration (*cough* TikTok *cough*), we’ll never find our personal style or learn how to utilize self-expression authentically.
The Solution
My proposed solution is to start a moodboard of randomly collected images titled simply “Things I Like.” There are no rules for this list - you can save a photo of a living room or a leaf, as long as you like it. From there, you may start to notice patterns: colors, feelings, textures, and lifestyles you gravitate towards.
As a designer who works with other people’s styles all day long, this is a very valuable exercise when designing my own space to ensure it doesn’t become too derivative.
Things I Like
Typically, my Things I Like board is under lock and key on Pinterest, but today I’m giving you a peek to encourage you and inspire you to find what scratches that “I like this” itch in your own brain.
1. Pink jade
2. Swirly curly iron details
3. Bouquets with only one flower type
4. Odd-shaped lighting
5. Funny chef art (a la The Bear)
I hope you feel a bit more inspired and excited to find items for your home that truly speak to you. That’s all for now! xx
