We’re One!

On the one year anniversary since Eleventh House Designs was founded, our blog is born.

Hi friends, welcome to my first blog post!

Exactly one year ago, I founded Eleventh House Designs after my passion for design became too big to ignore. I’m launching this monthly newsletter/diary/tell-all/personal manifesto to share inspiration, explore niche design topics, and bring creatives and design enthusiasts together. It wouldn't be a one-year celebration without cake and I'm currently obsessing over these whimsical ones, they're practically art sculptures IMO.

Think of this monthly blog as a cultural design reset in the shape of an informal magazine article. A place to find answers to design conundrums like “Where can I buy that cool lamp I keep seeing on Pinterest” or “How do I style my home for the holidays in a sophisticated, whimsical, classy, artsy way?” I’ll also be answering subscriber questions and sharing exclusive products for purchase.

I want this space to be as interactive as possible, so feel free to leave a comment or send in a question. The more yapping, the better. Now let’s get into it.

Monthly Musings

Living in California is synonymous with endless summer to the point where I forget that other places experience real seasons. Around this time of the year, I typically ball my hands into a fist and curse the sun every time I walk outside because I want to see a leaf change color dammit! Sometimes I’ll even keep my curtains closed all day and play rain music to simulate a different season, sue me. While we haven’t seen any leaves fall yet, September hit different this year as I neared the one-year milestone since launching EHD. My fall moodboard is full of warm tones.

Reflecting on the last year, I can’t help but notice how much focusing on creativity has enhanced my life. Art and photography have always been my favorite activities (a few years ago during the pandemy, I even bought a literal children’s coloring book to stay sane). As adults, it’s easy to push off creativity in favor of productivity. Well, I’m here to tell you…stop that. At this one-year mark, I’m choosing to celebrate commitment to creativity, especially as I review all the wrapped projects from this past month:

NYC Living Room Design

It doesn’t get much more Manhattan than an all-brick interior. Since my client had just moved out of an all-white apartment in Miami, I couldn’t help but wonder (as Carrie Bradshaw says)…would they be ready to embrace a moody color palette? Turns out, they loved it.

Beverly Hills Apartment Moodboard

Having lived in Beverly Hills very briefly myself (IYKYK), I’ve come to love the charm of older buildings. My client’s space already had light wood floors, a fireplace, and warm white walls, so we needed to add a bit of sophisticated pattern, shape, and color.

Los Angeles Home Art Selection

For a couple who loves to entertain, Hollywood Regency style with a Palm Springs essence created the perfect mix for their living room gallery wall. Vintage gold frames and warm white matboards kept everything cohesive.

Current Fixation

After a week spent running around Denmark this summer, I’m dreaming in Danish design. I spotted the Flowerpot V9 lamp in several design stores and find its story fascinating.

“The Flowerpot collection designed by Verner Panton first saw the light of day in 1968. The collection was created from the vision of designing products, that not only serve as functional objects but also trigger emotion. Flowerpot reflects a break with convention and embraces a more open and modern mentality, that promotes peace and harmony. For this reason, the Flowerpot also became synonymous with the Flower Power movement of the late 60's.”

Since it’s rechargeable, I’d style this lamp on a bookshelf, bar countertop, or desk. Get it in brass or chrome.

Question from the Community

Q: “What’s one design mistake you made in your home? How did you fix it?”

A while back, I became obsessed with Italian dinner plates. I ordered what I thought was a standard size, but I’d accidentally selected the mini, which was about 3” wide. Now, it’s the perfect home for my AirPods. Mistakes are only happy accidents.

That’s all for now, see you next month! xx
